Black History is 365 Playlist: 28 Songs for Black History Month

This playlist won’t start at slavery and neither does our history.

Music is at the root of the black experience:

From ScHoolboy Q’s plead to end  senseless gang violence,

Sam Cooke’s & Kendrick Lamar’s hopefulness,

Nas’ advice to reclaim our world,

Kanye’s oral history of Reaganomics,

Killer Mike’s lyrical moonwalk over Ronald Reagan’s grave,

Chance’s faith,

C-Murder’s loyalty (Angela Rye inspired pick),

To the black joy national anthem “Optimistic”.

All represent our diverse culture. Music is, in fact, our healing. This shit is for us, but we’ll share this time.
